Saturday Parent-child Workshops 2023-2024To develop team building skills in students and enhance parent-child interactions, our NET, Mr Jed, hosted cooking workshops which both parents and their children learn the methods and techniques to make their very own dish with fresh ingredients. They were guided by Mr Jed to master basic English vocabulary and basic steps of making a dish. The food we eat is often a reflection of our values and culture. In fact, our students get the chance to explore the characteristic of different cultures through making the delicious dish. Saturday Parent-child Workshops 2022-2023To develop team building skills in students and enhance parent-child interactions, our NETs, Mr Jed and Fred, hosted lawn games workshops which both parents and their children enjoy a friendly match and were guided by Mr Jed or Mr Fred to master basic throwing skills and tactics to win the game. English Fun Day – The YCM Summer Sports Carnival 2023627! 627! 627! On this special day, our students not only get to learn positive values through sports but also engage in real-life communication with our NETs. Our school transforms into a sports ground where students play various sports carnival games and reach the finish line as fast as they can. Let’s give it to your best shot!
After playing all the sports games, students realise that ‘No winning without losing!’ Learning English is just like running in the sports ground. No earning without learning!
Principal Siu reminds students to embrace the power of sport to bring joy in learning English in a fun, engaging way and thank to all the teachers for collaborating together to pull off this special event. Teamwork does inspire our students to shine from within. P.1-P.6 Raz-kids Home Reading Scheme
- Our school-based home reading scheme aims to nurture reading at home so as to develop students’ lifelong reading habits and raise their reading comprehension and fluency progressively.
- Students are encouraged to read for pleasure will be awarded a reading achievement certificate after completing an assigned level so as to acknowledge their efforts for reading regularly at home.
Recess English ActivitiesOur NETs, Mr Jed and Mr Fred spend their recess time to play English games and with our students and motivate them to have more engaging conversations in everyday life English so as to boost their confidence in spoken English. P.4-P.6 School-based Speaking Programme
- Our speaking programme aims to hone the public speaking skills of students and equip them with the necessary group communication and interpersonal skills for developing a high level of communicative competence in the long run.
P.1 English Drama WorkshopsTo boost P1 students’ confidence in expressing themselves through words, facial expressions and body language, our school has organised English Drama workshops for them. Our native-speaking drama coach have designed fun drama activities and improvisation exercise to help P.1 students learn how to work confidently with their peers, expand their English communication skills and enhance their creativity. The P.1 children get to showcase weeks of hard work in our school auditorium. It offers our students a unique opportunity to learn and interact with their schoolmates through role-play. English Drama ClubStudents have drama activities. They build up confidence in speaking English and have fun at the same time. Kids4kids My Story Creation CompetitionOur P.6 students took part in ‘My Story Creation Competition 2023’ and received the ‘Overall Winner’, ‘Most Promising Writer’ and ‘Most Promising Illustrator’ awards at the prize-giving ceremony held on 24th June, 2023. Storytelling is a great way for YCM students to create their own stories and characters through drawing or writing which fosters creativity and imagination in them. My Story Creation WorkshopWe cooperate with Kids4Kids to provide My Story Creation Workshop for our P.3 classes. The students learn how to create a story and draw pictures for it. Some students have joined My Story Creation Competition organized by Kids4kids. Hong Kong Schools Speech FestivalWe participate in solo verse speaking competition this year. Our students submit videos of their performances which are forwarded to the organiser. Students get valuable experiences in the process of preparing for their performances. School-based Support ServicesThe Education Bureau offers school-based support services to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching in developing our school-based English curriculum. Since September, our English teachers have taken part in curriculum planning, lesson implementation and assessment through the collaboration with the Senior Curriculum Development Officer.
The school-based support services not only give our teachers the opportunity to demonstrate and sustain their passion for teaching but also promote the culture of continuing professional development. Cambridge English ClassPrimary one to six students can join the Cambridge English Class to enhance their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for the Cambridge English exams. The course includes intensive exercises about grammar, vocabulary, syntax and daily language. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, online classes are conducted this year.
